These cookies are an adaptation of my Chocolate Swirl Cookies. I knew after making the Chocolate Swirl Cookies, that there would be endless flavor combinations to try with these tri-flavored cookies. Plus they just look so gorgeous! The dough takes on flavors well and an insta follower @a.shiney.spoonful has even created a version with three kinds of hot chocolate to flavor each of the three doughs. I have always been a fan of Oreo Cookies so I figured Cookies and Cream was a good place to start with my second tri – flavor cookie.
The recipe stays almost the same as the Chocolate Swirl cookies but I increased both the vanilla extract and black cocoa portions in this version, plus added in crushed Oreo cookies. They were a hit at the cottage over the long weekend. There is just something about that Oreo flavor!
I love the way the three different dough’s combine in both flavor and appearance. They are a firm but chewy cookie. Just a little bit more decadent than a typical sugar cookie.
I made a couple of cookies from just the portion of dough that had the crushed Oreos and they were so good on their own too! I feel like the addition of some cream cheese and that would make an awesome cookie.
Might be my next test run!
Recipe
Cookies and Cream (aka Oreo) Swirl Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8-10 Oreo cookies, crushed
- 1 ½ tablespoon black cocoa powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Beat together butter, sugar and brown sugar until creamy.
- Add egg and vanilla extract. Beat until well blended.
- Add flour, baking soda and salt. Beat until dough begins to form a ball.
- Remove ball from mixing bowl and split into 3 equal parts.
- Leave one of the portions of dough plain.
- Add black cocoa powder to one of the dough portions.
- Add the crushed oreo to the last portion of dough. Stir only until mixed in. You want to still be able to see some of the dough so it has a speckled appearance.
- Roll ½ teaspoon size dough balls with each type of dough.
- Take one dough ball from each of the three types of dough and roll them together.
- Bake in preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until edges start to become golden.
- Remove cookies to a cooling rack.
