This is one of those old family recipes your aunt brings to the family reunion. Everyone raves about it and then it is forgotten until the next summer event. You know the recipe you ask for but then never make. I am telling you it is worth making. And when you somehow end up with a Costco size box of Rice Krispies in your pantry a few good recipes with krispies are always good to have in your back pocket.

This recipe is from a Family Recipe Book I was given one Christmas. Best. Gift. Ever. All typed and categorized in a binder and was a ton of work to create. A gift straight from the heart.
It is no bake and with the current heat wave we are having (I am not complaining), making a good dessert without heating up the oven (and the house) is perfect!
It is an easy one to make. Just start by melting the brown sugar, corn syrup and peanut butter on the stove over medium heat. Mix it until all the ingredients have melted but do NOT let it come to a boil. Then it is as easy as mixing in the rice krispies, butter and chopped peanuts into the melted mixture. Press the mixture into a greased 8 X 8 pan and then I pressed a few pretzels and mini peanut butter cups on to the top of the mixture and drizzle with chocolate. The other option is to leave off the pretzels/mini peanut butter cups and melt enough chocolate to cover the entire top of the bars. Let cool at room temperature. But if it is super hot and humid (again not complaining) you may need to give them a little help to set up by putting them the fridge for 15-30 minutes. Normally they can be stored at room temperature.
The peanut butter and corn syrup make them nice and chewy and the rice krispies give them a little crunch. I used salted peanuts but if you are watching your salt intake unsalted peanuts would work too.
