why you will love this recipe

    • It’s made using everyday ingredients.
    • Quick and easy to make.
    • No mixer required!
    • It’s chocolatey, crunchy, sweet and salty!

    Ingredients you will need

    • Saltine Crackers
    • Sugar
    • Butter
    • Chocolate Chips

    Tips for making bark

When the butter and sugar start to boil, it will become frothy. Let it boil for about a minute longer. If you want more of a nutty flavor, you can let it boil longer for more of a browned butter flavor.

Saltine crackers is the base in this recipe but they can be replaced by a layer of pretzels, graham crackers or even potato chips!

    frequently asked questions

    Salted or unsalted butter?

I am a salted butter fan.  It saves me a step and I always have salted butter on hand. Since some people prefer to use unsalted butter when baking, all recipes will indicate how much salt to add to the recipe.

What is the best ways to melt the chocolate for this recipe?

I like to spread a layer of chocolate chips on top and then just pop it back into the oven for a couple of minutes. You can just spread the melted chocolate chips over the cracker/sugar/butter mixture. You can also melt the chocolate in the microwave or double boiler and then spread out over the cracker/butter/sugar mixture. Remember that melting the chocolate in a separate bowl/pot requires more clean up and who wants more clean up? Not me!

What kind of chocolate chips should I use?

I used semi sweet chocolate chips in this recipe but you can easily substitute any kind of chocolate chips. Try switching up the chocolate chips for different flavors. Adding holiday sprinkles makes this an easy one to adapt to any occasion!

    How should I store it?

I always keep it at least in the fridge but it is also very yummy straight from the freezer!
